History
On August 18, 1910, the LaMott Fire Company was formed by a group of concerned citizens coming together to provide fire protection to LaMott and the surrounding communities. In the early days of the organization, the fire company was housed in a small barn on Willow Ave.
The Fire Company
The pioneers of LaMott Fire Company would race to help their fellow citizens using a two-wheeled hose cart pulled by hand, 500 feet of hose, and a number of buckets. In 1914 a formal fire house was erected at 1614 Willow Ave. The company’s first motorized equipment came in 1916, when an Isotta Franschini was put in service. By 1957, the LaMott Fire Company moved to its present location on Penrose Ave and Humphery Merry Way.
In 1980, LaMott Fire Company became one of the first HazMat response units in Montgomery County. Today the LaMott Fire Company protects nearly 10,0000 people living in a 1.8 square mile vicinity of Cheltenham Township.
